This is my 2nd week at the new company. I love it!
Opportunities are endless here, at least in my opinion. People are great, this is one of those companies where 80% of the workplace is based on cultural fit.
I've seen 3 people on the street I categorize as celebrities... Jackie Warner (from Bravo's Work Out), Eva Longoria, Mario Lopez.
Ok, so not every place is perfect. Here are the baddies.
- The parking structure I use is about 1/4 mile away (5 minute walk). It's not bad, as long as the weather stays like this... stereotypical sunny California.
- Inexpensive food options are scarce compared to the Santa Monica office. It's back to brown bagging.
- Emails... I get over 1000+ emails in my inbox each day. It's INSANE!!! And like everyone tells me, Filters are going to be my best friend.

We're a pretty modern society right?
This morning I shot off an email inquiring about purchasing something from an individual through craigslist.
His post was very brief with not many details about the condition of his item, but would only reply via phone.
I get a call back from him and ask him my questions. He responded, but in the end it didn't really sound like it fit, not to mention I still need to consult C because the price was decent.
I told him I would consult with my wife and he immediately interrupts... "Oh ok. Well, you don't have say you're going to talk to your wife if you don't want it. I've looked around and don't see anyone else selling it, do you?"
He kept rambling on, I just thanked him for calling me back and just hung up.
I'm sure someone will buy it, but it's not going to be me.

I haven't felt this sick in a long time, and it wasn't a cold/flu sick. My belly was super uncomfortable and I was in serious pain.
This morning I ate one of those asian grapefruits (from chinese new years) and a cinnamon bun (from Ikea). I don't think it was the cinnamon bun because I had one on Sunday evening with no problems. I also microwaved it a bit to warm it up. The grapefruit, on the other hand, I don't remember washing the outside of the grapefruit before cutting the rind.
I was in a meeting with my team lead when I could tell there was something really wrong. I started feeling really warm, my body temperature was just heating up. I cut the 1 on 1 short and went to a quiet place to sit and hope that the pain would pass. All that happened was me sweating like I just ran a marathon, my arms were beading and t-shirt was all wet. I ended up going downstairs to my car and taking a long nap. After 2 and a half hours, the pain passed.
Note to self: wash fruit before eating!
I thought this was pretty handy

Yesterday I gave my official notice.
It's been an amazing run.
I started here around 2.5 years ago, back when it was just over 20 employees. Now we're over 100. Talk about crazy growth!
Turns out I have a plethora of knowledge that needs to be brain dumped to the rest of my team. I totally take that kind of stuff for granted. I've been strumming thru my head all night making sure, didn't help that I woke up at 3am with one of our dogs standing on my chest starting at me (she wanted to be let out to potty).
I'm really going to miss all the people here. I've made a lot of friends. I hope to keep in touch with at least 10% of them. Networking and staying in touch is what helped me get my future position.
I've been feeling really bad for S, my partner in crime. He used to be the only person who ran that group until I joined. I know at first he was a little defensive about sharing work, but warmed up really quickly after being able to offload all the new projects and get some long needed bed rest. He took it as well as he could, I have a feeling it was also a huge wake up call for him, to think about keeping his options open.
And lastly, the guy who made this little company's growth noticed by investors all around, D. I worked with him at a previous company and he's the person who hired me here. He left just recently to be the CTO of a former dot com, but I have no doubt that he's going to make amazingly drastic waves and revive that company from the deepest depths of darkness. He has been one of the greatest people I've ever worked with. Amazingly talented with an open mind and innovated innovations. I'm going to make an huge effort to chat/email him from time to time.
Crap, I'm rambling.
I feel like a dinosaur here, sometimes good, sometimes bad... but overall a great experience.

How do you want 2008 to be different from 2007? What will you change or do differently?

I can't help but laugh at this question...
There's a great saying from a friend of C's, not sure the origins though...
it's sounds a little like this
The problems that you can throw any amount of money at to fix, aren't the bad problems.
C's husband passed this morning
They've been married only a few months, I haven't known him for very long, but I loved talking to him about food. We both had a thing about sweets, particularly ice cream. He will be missed.
One of the things that's been brought up is just make sure you have all your information somewhere, safe deposit even quick chicken scrathes on pieces of paper, so that if absolutely anything happens to you, someone is able to take care of your matters. Bank and credit card information are easier to get access to by contacting the institutions directly, but things like email accounts, passwords to computers, online/internet anything aren't.
If you have balances, credit cards, mortgages, car loans... please consider taking out a life insurance policy. Once a creditor finds out that the person with a balance has passed, they usually want the rest of the payment in full within 30 days.
