Saturday I participated in Long Beach's Oar and Paddle Regatta. It's an 8 mile race around the breakwater of Long Beach. (That's not including the 3 miles of paddling to bring the dragon boat to the race spot) Paddling nonsop for 2 hours, and in the open ocean water is a totally different feeling.
Big thanks to Mike (the guy standing behind me) for being a great steersman. I don't think we'd be able to handle the wakes created from all those fishing boats in the ocean. He also pointed out how important our timing was because it's really easy for the boat to flip.
He was also nice enough to go back to the marina and bring his boat to tow us back after the race. =)
I also had plans to attend RF's poker/games night that evening and thought it would be nice to bring something. I decided to make some Banana Chocolate bread. It's a really great recipe shared by JL (who was in our dragon boating team but just moved to attend culinary school).
I didn't think anything was wrong until I looked into the oven 30 minutes into baking and noticed that the cake wasn't rising. I finished baking and was really confused on wth happened. DOH! The recipe asked for 1 1/2 cups of flour... and I only added 1 cup.
I didn't have time to make a new one, so I headed out to RF's place. I could've sworn the Evite said 5:30, so I wanted to be fashionably late at 6pm. (I discovered the Evite was for 6:30pm, haha) I think I'm just going to make it a habit to come early. I hardly see RF anyways, so this'll gives us time to catch up on everything.
Poker night was a lot of fun. I didn't win either rounds, but it's not like I lost a lot of money either. If I were in Vegas, I'd probably have lost that much money in 10 seconds compared to 2 hours, so it was all good. Lastly, Papa John's pizza is awesome!
Next time I'll make sure to follow the directions correctly!
